When to Book Wedding Vendors

Planning a wedding takes time. There are so many moving parts and most of us are not used to planning events of this scale on a regular basis. Here is a check list of when you should complete each part. Courtesy of Kern County Bridal Association.

12-18 Months

  • Pick a Date plus two alternative dates.
  • Announce Your Engagement. Family first, then post it to Facebook.
  • Start a Pinterest Board.
  • Outline a Budget (It will change).
  • Make a rough Guest Count.
  • Choose the wedding party.
  • Bridal Shows (Get inspired, get information, and See pretty dresses).

9-12 Months

  • Pick a Wedding Dress (Visit Enchanted Bridal for some great choices).
  • Names and Addresses of Guests
  • Schedule Tastings (Catering).
  • Book Venues (Coming Soon: Our Favorite Venues).
  • Pick Colors: 1 Primary, 2 Secondary.
  • Pick Bridal Party Attire.
  • Book: Photo, Cinema, DJ/Musicians, and Coordinator…

Optional-

  • Interview a Florist, Decorator, and Limo.
  • Attend Pre-Marital Counseling.

8 Months

  • Save the Date Cards (Use an Engagement photo.)
  • Set the Menu with Catering
  • Find a Baker (Tastries is really good!)
  • Set up Wedding Registries (Amazon, Bed Bath & Beyond, Williams Sinoma)
  • Attend More Bridal Shows

7 Months

  • Order Jewelry
  • Schedule Dress Fitting
  • Engagement Party
  • Begin Planning Bachelor/Bachelorette Party
  • Assign Family to Honorary Jobs
  • Book Florist
  • Book Rentals

6 Months

  • Book Baker and Officiant
  • Order Bridesmaids’ dresses and Groomsmen Attire
  • Schedule Mothers’ Fittings
  • Flower Girl Attire

5 Months

  • Reserve Tuxedo’s.
  • Reserve Rentals.
  • Purchase Cuff links, studs or other men’s accessories.

4 Months

  • Order Wedding Invites
  • Meet Wedding Pros
  • Pick Hair Stylist
  • Select Honeymoon Destination
  • Get Passports

3 Months

  • Schedule Fittings
  • Hair/Make-up Trial Run
  • Last Minute Decor
  • Guest Favors
  • Meet with DJ/Emcee

2 Months

  • Mail Invites
  • Final Fittings
  • Confirm Bachelor/Bachelorette Party
  • Schedule Rehearsal Locations

1 Month Out

  • Obtain a Marriage License
  • Meet with Vendors to Confirm Timelines
  • Purchase Bridal Party Gifts
  • Assemble Guest Favors

2 Weeks Prior

  • Confirm Catering Count
  • Pick up Jewelry and confirm fit
  • Finalize Seating Arrangements

1 Week Prior

  • Finalize Timeline with Photo, Cinema, DJ and Coordinator
  • Give officiant your License
  • Prepare Tip Envelopes

48 Hours

  • Steam Wedding Dress
  • Pick Up Tuxedos
